BLOCKADE

Talin Suciyan is a team member of BLOCKADE, based in Hamburg. She works on the relationship between humanitarianism, blockade, and slow violence in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Suciyan received her PhD (2015) and her habilitation (2019) from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), where she continues to teach as Privatdozentin (Associate Professor) at the Institute for Near and Middle Eastern Studies. Her research encompasses Ottoman and modern Middle Eastern history, colonialism, Ottoman temporalities, migration, ecclesiastical law, gender, medicine, and peasantry. She is the author of The Armenians in Modern Turkey: Post-Genocide Society, History and Politics (I.B. Tauris, 2016), Outcasting Armenians: Tanzimat of the Provinces (Syracuse University Press, 2023), Armenians in Turkey after the Second World War: An Archival Reader of USSR Consular Documents (I.B.Tauris, 2025).

Suciyan has taught a wide range of courses on Middle Eastern history, Ottoman and Armenian studies as well as Western Armenian language and Armeno – Turkish. She is actively engaged in women’s collectives through which collaborative community knowledge is produced, notably the Parrhesia Collective.
